During the darker winter months people often compensate with sparkly lights, at least for when the sun is down. Make the most of the daylight outside with these professional tokens of advice:

    •    Mimic the snow: Incorporate light-colored flooring in order to reflect and maximize on the sun’s natural light coming in. In contrast with the snow, consider baring your solid floors to for a firm & fresher atmosphere (i.e., removing carpeting/rugs).
    •    Lavish lumens: Take down heavy draperies to allow for the natural light to pour in. Consider switching your lightbulbs for brighter ones for the season. Don’t forget about dimmers as an option to customize your lighting levels for any given occasion.
    •    Furniture linens: Whether or not changing your flooring is viable an option for you, light-colored or brightly-patterned furniture coverings serve to reflect the light in a similar fashion to contribute to the overall openness and lightness of a room.
    •    Clean up: Organize your space and get rid of clutter. Rearrange furniture and consider replacing denser pieces to allow for more space to be filled with soft winter light.
    •    Enhance: Light-colored walls may result in a space feeling taller. Fresh plants’ scents and air purification can also brighten up a room’s atmosphere. If nothing else, photography of sunny spaces can somewhat mentally transport the viewer to such an environment, whether on the walls or laden in a coffee table book.
